Riding the Merri Creek Track.

September 1 lived up to the expectation of beautiful spring weather with just a gentle northerly breeze. We enjoyed the sights of the Merri Creek including the blossom trees, the trestle bridge, parks and churches with the calling of Bellbirds and Kookaburras.
Ceres Environment Park is always interesting to explore with its markets, chooks and low energy displays, background music, not to mention the food and coffee at the cafe. The wind was springing up as we left so we came home along the easier Upfield Track. We are not high powered riders!
During the day we discussed ideas for future rides such as a ride to Melbourne Zoo, a ride along the Williamstwon/Altona track or a ride up the Moonee Ponds Creek to visit the historcal buildings around West Meadows. There are plenty of possibilities and any suggestions are welcome.
Next ride will be in early October.

Watch this space or give me a call for future events.

To Darwin and Back>

I have been away travelling in the Northern Territiory for a couple of months, camping in some of Australia's spectacular national parks. I managed to hire a bike here and there. It was great to see how many people attach their bikes to campers and caravans to get from A to B at each destination. There were also some hardy souls riding along the Stuart and Barkley Highways. So now I am back in wintry Melbourne and planning the next Glenroy Cycling Ride for the first Saturday in September. If interested contact me on jmcycling@hotmail and I will let you know the details. Also watch the local paper as the day draws nearer. Would love to see you, Jill.

Push Off!

Well the weather wasn't all that brilliant and there were some apologies due to illness which had hit some of our potential riders during the week. Three of us set off under overcast skies andwe rode down to the Upfield bike track and on to Brunswick where we stopped at a funky cafe in Victoria st for brunch. Some drizzle set in on the way back but that's bike riding for you!By the time we reached Coburg the rain had stopped and we rode on through the Fawkner Cemetry (very interesting) and back to Glenroy. The three of us are fairly experienced riders so the exercise was worthwhile in looking at safety issues and riding in convoy etc with greater numbers in the future. Watch this space for some photos!!

The next ride will be in mid July, date not fixed yet as I am taking my bike kit to Central Australia for 6 weeks. By then it will be the wintry months and it will depend on the weather where our next adventure takes us but please continue to watch this spot for further updates.
